Gerlebogk is a district of the town of Könnern and is located in the east of the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

Gerlebogk is located between the towns of Bernburg (Saale) , Köthen (Anhalt) , Gröbzig and Könnern in an intensely agricultural black earth region. The gently undulating, largely forest-free terrain gradually slopes down to the Fuhnetal in the southwest and reaches 104 m above sea level in the Akazienberg . NN. The district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld borders directly on the east of the Gerlebogk district.

The Berwitz district belonged to the former municipality of Gerlebogk.

history

The name of the place can be derived from the Old High German Ger = spear, weapon. The area of ​​the district of Bernburg was already used for agriculture 6,500 years ago. Gerlebogk and the surrounding villages are settlements from the 10th and 11th centuries.

1798 began lignite in opencast mining , partly underground, degrade in Gerlebogk, first in small amounts due to low demand. From the middle of the 19th century, mining expanded, the Franz mine in Gerlebogk produced coal until 1929. In 1900 the community was connected by railway lines in all directions (small railway lines Nauendorf-Gerlebogk, Biendorf-Gerlebogk). Lignite mining, a long time ago, left numerous residual holes in Gerlebogk and the surrounding area, some of which are now used as a bathing lake ( pipe pond) .

Gerlebogk and Berwitz belong historically to Anhalt . From 1863 both places were in the district of Köthen in the Principality of Anhalt , which became the Free State of Anhalt in 1918 . In 1932 Gerlebogk and Berwitz came to the Dessau-Köthen district , which was renamed the Köthen district in 1950. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Gerlebogk was assigned to the Bernburg district in the Halle district, which became the Bernburg district in 1990 and was added to the Salzlandkreis in 2007.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Gerlebogk was incorporated into the town of Könnern together with the municipalities of Cörmigk , Edlau and Wiendorf .

Culture and sights

Albert Hädecke's grave in the local cemetery commemorates a communist who was slain in Köthen at the beginning of the Nazi era in 1933 because he hoisted a red flag.

The connecting road from Köthen (Anhalt) to Könnern with the motorway junction Könnern ( A 14 from Halle (Saale) to Magdeburg ) leads through Gerlebogk . Other roads connect Gerlebogk with Bernburg (Saale) and Gröbzig . The next train stations are in Biendorf and Könnern.
