Location of the city of Zealand in the Salzlandkreis
Seeland is a city in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The city of Zealand is located in the far west of the Salzlandkreis. The city is traversed by the Selke, which flows further downstream into the Bode .
As districts are Friedrichsaue , Frose , Gatersleben , City Hoym , Nachterstedt and Schadeleben to the community.
On July 1, 2014, the new municipal constitutional law of the state of Saxony-Anhalt came into force. In its § 14 (2) the municipalities are given the opportunity to assign this designation to the districts that were towns before the incorporation. The city of Zealand has made use of this regulation. Their new main statutes came into force on September 8, 2015. In § 1 (2) the districts are listed with their official names.
history
Parts of today's urban area of Seeland were part of the great historical Aschersleber lake until the drainage from 1703 by the King of Prussia . When it was reclaimed as an agricultural land, for example, the district of Friedrichsaue was created. In the early 19th century, the discovery of brown coal was the reason for renewed changes due to open-cast mining. With the cessation of lignite mining, the landscape of the city of Zealand will be revised again in the course of recultivation .
The merger of the city of Hoym and the communities Friedrichsaue , Frose , Nachterstedt and Schadeleben on July 15, 2009 took place against the background of the municipal reform in Saxony-Anhalt and the associated dissolution of the Seeland administrative community in favor of a unified community . The municipality of Gatersleben , which also belongs to the administrative community , was co-administered by the city of Zealand until September 1, 2010, when it was incorporated into the municipality.
Lake Concordia is located in the districts of Nachterstedt and Schadeleben . In the early morning of July 18, 2009, in the Nachterstedt area, an approximately 350-meter-wide strip of land in the southern foothills of the emerging water broke off. A two-story single-family house, part of an apartment building as well as a section of street and a viewing platform were swept away.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved by the Salzlandkreis on February 18, 2015.
Blazon : "Divided, above in silver a growing black red armored bear, in the upper corners of the shield three right and left three blue five-pointed stars, below in blue a silver fish."
Reasons for the coat of arms: The bear in the coat of arms is intended to refer to the historical affiliation to Anhalt and to tie in with the Hoym coat of arms. The six stars should represent the merged communities in the form of a number symbolism. The fish as a symbol for the lake that is being re-created and the improvement of the environment, takes up the Nachterstedter and Froser coat of arms. The previous coat of arms, with approval from September 8, 2009, was identical except for the 5 stars. |
flag
The flag is black and white (1: 1) striped and centered with the coat of arms of the city of Zealand. In the case of the longitudinal shape of the flag (hoisting flag) the stripes run vertically, in the case of the cross shape of the flag (cross flag) the stripes run horizontally.
Town twinning
The city of Seeland maintains partnership relationships with the community of Diez in Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition, some districts have their own partnership relationships: Hoym to Hatten in Lower Saxony, Nachterstedt to Boffzen in Lower Saxony, Frose to Holzappel in Rhineland-Palatinate and Gatersleben to Delligsen in Lower Saxony.
traffic
Street
The national road 6 ( Bernburg - Aschersleben ) used to lead through the urban area. It is now a four-lane " yellow motorway " that crosses Seeland between the districts of Hoym and Nachterstedt. A stitch of the Romanesque Road leads from Falkenstein / Harz to Frose.
railroad
Zealand has three train stations. The stations of Nachterstedt-Hoym, Gatersleben and Frose are on the Halle – Halberstadt railway line . From this branched off at Frose until 2003, the railway line via Ballenstedt to Quedlinburg ( railway line Frose – Quedlinburg ).
