coat of arms
Blazon : "A silver heron in green, accompanied by three silver oak leaves with an acorn on the top left and bottom right."
Earlier coats of arms from Plötzkau cannot be proven. On January 30, 1950, the community decided to use an official seal with an image of the sun, tree and sheep. In a letter that can be verified by the LHA, it says: " The trinity means that the sun gives agriculture (sheep as the most important grazing animal) and forestry prosperity. Signature: The municipality chairman, Paul Zabel. " April 1950 this picture seal.
The image used in the seal or its individual elements emerged from current conditions that have changed half a century later. For example, there were hardly any flocks of sheep left. The municipal council therefore decided on a symbolism for the newly developed coat of arms that is timeless and expresses a regional peculiarity with which the residents identify. That was the heron in connection with oak leaves, because near Plötzkau there is an approx. 400 hectare oak forest, which decisively determines the landscape portrait of the area; In addition, the gray heron is strongly represented here and is a feature of the regional fauna. Because of the natural reference, green was chosen as the shield color. The coat of arms was designed in 1994 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and included in the approval process.

South of the community is the federal road 6 , Halle (Saale) to Quedlinburg . The A 14 motorway , which leads from the Dresden area via Leipzig and Halle (Saale) to Magdeburg , is located in the west of Plötzkau, the place has its own junction. The A 14 still exists between Schwerin and Wismar, and the missing intermediate section is under construction.
landscape
To the east of the village is the Plötzkau floodplain forest, an approximately 385 hectare forest area on the Saale which is designated as an EU bird sanctuary. This is a contiguous hardwood forest in the middle of an intensively used arable landscape. Birds of prey use the forest as a breeding ground and the surrounding arable land as feeding space. Migratory bird species include gray bunting , stock dove and meadow pipit . Kingfisher , honey buzzard and merlin (bird) are just a few of the native bird species.
