County of Plötzkau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Plötzkau was a medieval dominion with the main town Plötzkau near Bernburg (Saale) . The power center of the county, the castle Plötzkau , is mentioned for the first time in 1049.

history

The Counts of Plötzkau descend from the Lords of Kakelingen (desolate west of Staßfurt ). It is possible that King Heinrich IV created the county of Plötzkau before or in 1069 and gave it to the Kakelingern. Count Dietrich von Plötzkau inherited the county of Walbeck through his wife , his son Helperich was briefly entrusted in 1112 with their office as Margrave of the North Mark instead of the Counts of Stade . He died in 1118. In 1130, Helperich's son Konrad - called the Sachsenblume - received the Nordmark. However, he fell in Italy in 1133 on King Lothar III's train to Rome . The family died out in 1147 with Konrad's brother Bernhard. Bernhard fell on the Second Crusade in Armenia .

From 1435 the castle belonged to the Principality of Anhalt , after which a branch line of the Askanians was named from 1603 (princes of Anhalt-Plötzkau ), who inherited the Anhalt-Köthen line in 1665 and then also took its name.
