Location of Gatersleben in Zealand

Gatersleben is a district of the city of Seeland in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt . Since the dissolution of the administrative community of Zealand on July 15, 2009, the independent place was co-administered by the city of Zealand and compulsorily assigned to September 1, 2010.

Gatersleben is located in the northern Harz foreland . The Selke flows through the municipality .

history

The area around Gatersleben was already inhabited in the Stone Age. The place is named for the Neolithic Gatersleben culture , which is widespread in Central Germany and is counted among the Epi-Rössen groups. The pottery of this era was found here for the first time.

The place Gatersleben is mentioned for the first time in 964 in a document (see also Burg Gatersleben ), in which it is written that Margrave Gero gave the Gernrode Monastery, which he founded, three hooves in "antiquo Gatersleve" among other goods .

On September 30, 1928, the Gatersleben manor district was combined with the Gatersleben rural community.

Economy and Infrastructure

On December 31, 2008 the number of companies in the community of Gatersleben was almost 130 with over 1,600 employees. These are mainly small and medium-sized companies as well as the two largest companies - Novelis Deutschland GmbH and Joseph Cyril Bamford (JCB for short) Vibromax GmbH. The Leibniz Institute for Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research has around 500 employees. It has its origins in the Institute for Cultivated Plant Research founded in Vienna by the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in the last few years of the Second World War . After the war it was built on the north-eastern edge of the Harz in Gatersleben and expanded into a large research center for genetics and crop research. In 1969 it was renamed the Central Institute for Genetics and Crop Plant Research. The JCB (short: JCB) Vibromax GmbH has its origins in founded in 1907 A. Heucke steam plow locomotive factory Gatersleben and its successor VEB Construction Gatersleben which to combine belonged Baukema in Leipzig. In 2014 Vibromax closed the factory in Gatersleben, some of the buildings of which are still used by other companies.

Transport links

Gatersleben is served by the regional express trains Halle – Halberstadt (–Goslar) of Abellio Rail Central Germany every hour. In addition, the Aschersleben – Halberstadt regional train stops every two hours.
