Philipp August Klein

Philipp August Klein (born March 26, 1788 in Alt- Gatersleben , † January 26, 1875 in Duisburg ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 7th Landwehr Brigade.

Life

Philipp was the son of the preacher in Alt-Gatersleben Karl August Klein and his wife Christiane Elisabeth, née Türpen.

Military career

After completing his studies, Klein worked as a trainee lawyer for the government in Halberstadt in 1806 and, after the loss of the Fourth Coalition War, entered the Westphalian service . In 1809 he was one of the Westphalian troops who formed the black band of the Duke of Braunschweig near Nossen . By 1812, Klein had advanced to become captain and brigadier adjutant. As such, he took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 . He was wounded in battles near Smolensk and Borodino , fought near Mir , Krasnoye andon the Berezina .

After his return, Klein switched to the Prussian service as captain on November 6, 1813 . He was employed in the Minden-Ravensberg Landwehr Infantry Regiment (2nd Westphalian Landwehr Regiment) and charged with leading a battalion. With the regiment he took part in the blockades of Antwerp and Venlo as well as the Battle of Laon during the Wars of Liberation in 1814/15 , before he was wounded in the battle near Charleroi .

After the war, Klein was aggregated to the 23rd Infantry Regiment on March 18, 1816 and transferred to the 16th Infantry Regiment on September 27, 1821 . From 1826 to 1827 he was in command of the Infantry Training Battalion. On March 30, 1829 he was promoted to major and transferred as commander to the Landwehr battalion of the 36th Infantry Regiment in Essen . On March 30, 1838 he was transferred to the 13th Infantry Regiment and on April 10, 1840 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . They then charged him on 24 March 1841 the leadership of this association and appointed Klein on January 15, 1842 regimental commander. On April 7, 1842 he was promoted to colonel and on September 12, 1842 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class. On March 27, 1847 he was then commander of the 7th Landwehr Brigade and on April 13, 1847 the 13th Infantry Regiment aggregated . Klein was promoted yet on May 10, 1848 Major General before its on June 24, 1848 farewell with pension received. On May 27, 1858, he was put up for disposal with a pension . He died on January 26, 1875 in Duisburg.

Klein married Katharina Henriette Carstanjen (1793–1873) in Duisburg on October 21, 1817.
