Hatten is a municipality in the Oldenburg district in Lower Saxony with around 14,000 inhabitants. The seat of the municipality is Kirchhatten .

Geographical location
Hatten is located on the north-western edge of the Wildeshauser Geest nature park from the outskirts of Oldenburg to about 15 km (as the crow flies ) southeast of Oldenburg and spreads with its districts, some of which are inside and outside the nature park, east of the Osenberge .

history
Hatten or Kirchhatten was first mentioned in 860 as "Hatho" .
"Hatho" is derived from the old German Hathus or Hadu . The meaning translated is "war, god of war luck and happy warrior".

Municipal council
The council of the municipality of Hatten consists of 28 councilors. The stipulated number for a parish with a population between 12,001 and 15,000 is usually 30 councilors. By resolution of the municipal council, this number was reduced by two council members. The 28 council members are elected by local elections for five years each. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.
The full-time mayor Christian Pundt is also entitled to vote in the municipal council.

In the last mayor elections on June 16, 2014, Christian Pundt (non-party candidate of the SPD) was elected full-time mayor . In the runoff election , Pundt received 54.34% of the vote, his opponent Jörg Skatulla (non-party) 45.65%. The turnout was 45.71%. Christian Pundt took office on November 1, 2014, replacing Mayor Elke Szepanski, who had been in office since 2006 and who was no longer running.

Economy and Infrastructure
The Oldenburg – Osnabrück railway runs through the district of Sandkrug . NordWestBahn trains run there every hour, and every half hour at rush hour .
The two basic centers, Sandkrug and Kirchhatten, are state-approved resorts in which recreation is very important.
In the municipality of Hatten there are also two golf courses and a leisure center with a campsite and an outdoor pool.

There is also an airfield for private aviation in the district of Sandtange, where the Aviation Club (CdFO) is based and takes care of private aviation issues.
