Sandkrug (I, II and III) is a district of the municipality Hatten in the district of Oldenburg , Lower Saxony .
Geography and transport links
Sandkrug is ten kilometers south of Oldenburg, immediately north of the Osenberge and directly on the federal motorway 29 and has its own motorway exit. Sandkrug has a train station on the Oldenburg – Osnabrück railway line , which is served by the NordWestBahn . Via this connection you can reach Oldenburg in nine minutes and Osnabrück in 81 minutes with the RE 18.
history
Today's Sandkrug was first mentioned under the name Streek in 1275 in the fiefdom register of the Counts of Oldenburg. The village was named Sandkrug when the Sandkrug, a station for travelers and mail riders and their horses, was built in front of the dunes of the Osenberg Mountains. Such was needed after the "Oldenburgische fahrende Post" began its service in 1734.
Culture
There was a printing museum in Sandkrug, which opened in 1989 and closed again in 2016 after the founder Horst Kolter passed away in 2014. Since 2010, visitors arriving at the Sandkruger train station have been greeted by a bronze group of sculptures called Osenzwerge. This is an artistic implementation of the regional saga about a dwarf people living in the Osenberg Mountains by the local artist Johannes Cernota . The legend comes from the 165th legend in the German book of legends by Ludwig Bechstein .
education
In Sandkrug there is the forest school, in which there is a high school . The school had around 640 students at the beginning of 2014. There is also a primary school on Sommerweg.
economy
Due to the good infrastructural connection of Sandkrug through the Autobahn 29, a large industrial area could be created in the immediate vicinity of the Autobahn entrance.
Sports
Sandkrug is home to two sports facilities. Near the forest school is the facility mainly used by TSG Hatten-Sandkrug eV, which includes a soccer field, cinder track, a skate park, a swimming pool, fields for beach volleyball and beach handball as well as athletics facilities. The core of the complex is the adjoining sports hall, in which, among other things, the men's handball team of TSG Hatten-Sandkrug plays its point games in the Oberliga North Sea. The tennis facility of the Schwarz-Weiß Oldenburg club is located in the center of the village, and the area of the soccer department of the Oldenburg-based club, which includes two grass pitches next to the club building, is directly adjacent to this along the railway line towards Osnabrück. A local sporting event that takes place every January is the Sandkruger Loop, a running event whose 13 km New Year's run also attracts participants from the surrounding area.

The VWG city bus route 315 runs from Oldenburg main station via Cloppenburger Strasse, Sandkruger Strasse and the Sandkruger town center to Hatterwüsting . In addition, the Hatten shuttle shuttles between Sandkrug and Kirchhatten via Sandhatten every hour. In addition, since September 2015, Sandkrug has been served on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday by the N 41 night bus, which starts from downtown Oldenburg and runs between Kreyenbrück and Sandkrug on the A29 federal motorway. Between the industrial area Sandkrug and the Berliner Straße stop in Hatterwüsting, this night bus line serves all regular stops on line 315 before it goes back to Oldenburg via Borchersweg in Tweelbäke.
