  • The federal highway 29 (abbreviation: BAB 29 ) - short form: Autobahn 29 (abbreviation: A 29 ) -, alternatively also called Jadelinie , begins in Wilhelmshaven and leads via Oldenburg to the Autobahn triangle Ahlhorner Heide with the federal highway 1 .

    course

The A 29 is 94.5 kilometers long, has four lanes throughout and begins in Wilhelmshaven . After it originally only led to junction 1 Voslapp , it was extended to a roundabout there around 2010 due to the construction of the container port at JadeWeserPort . In order not to have to provide all connection points with new numbers, the connection point at Jadeweserport was not declared as such. When the port is in full operation, 20 percent of its handling will be handled via the A 29 in the future. This means that the autobahn will also gain in national importance. The Wilhelmshavener Kreuz, located just beyond the city limits in the neighboring municipality of Schortens , connects the A 29 to the autobahn-like federal road 210 , which leads east into Wilhelmshaven city center and west via Jever, Wittmund and Aurich to Emden.

In future, the A 20 will be crossed at the Jaderberg junction , which is to lead there from the Westerstede junction on the A 28 . The new building was prepared on this section by laying cables. From Jaderberg, the A 20 will lead eastwards through the existing Weser tunnel and a new Elbe tunnel to be built near Drochtersen . It then bypasses Hamburg to the north in order to finally connect to the existing part of the motorway near Bad Segeberg .

At the Oldenburg-Nord motorway junction , the A 29 meets the Oldenburg ring road , which is formed from itself as well as the A 293 and the A 28 . From here you can take the A 293 to the A 28 in the direction of Emden / Leer . At the Oldenburg-Ost motorway junction, you can change to the A 28 in the direction of the city center or Bremen .

Finally, the A 29 opens at Dreieck Ahlhorner Heide in the A 1 a.

The A 29 crosses the Hunte twice : once between the Huntetal service station and the Sandkrug junction , the second time on a 26 meter high bridge over the section of the river, which is approved for ocean-going vessels. Below the highway, on the high bridge over the Hunte, pedestrians and cyclists can go directly from Blankenburg Abbey to Bornhorst .

    history

The A 29 largely replaces the former Reichstrasse or Bundesstrasse 69 , which in the area in which it ran parallel to the A 29 was stepped down to a state road, north of Oldenburg in some cases to a district road. Only the section between Schneiderkrug and Diepholz remained of the B 69 ; in the north-west it was diverted to the Cloppenburg junction of the A1, from where traffic from Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg is still directed towards Diepholz.

The decision to build the motorway was made in May 1969 by the then Federal Transport Minister Georg Leber , and construction lasted until April 1984. The construction costs totaled 680 million marks (today: around 1,292,127,000 euros) and were part of the cost per Kilometers to the most expensive in Germany. This was also due to the fact that the A 29 ran almost exclusively on a newly built route. In particular, the comparatively short section of the motorway between Wilhelmshaven and Zetel turned out to be extremely costly and time-consuming due to the poor subsoil in the former area of the Black Brack . Here in the muddy marshland and had so much earth moving and sand are flushed as to the remaining 75 kilometers of the highway until Ahlhorner Heide . The subsoil was dredged to a depth of 16 meters and replaced with sand.

On April 17, 1984, the last missing section of the motorway between Hengstlage and Ahlhorner Heide was cleared by the present parliamentary state secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Dieter Schulte , the Lower Saxony Economics Minister Birgit Breuel and the Oldenburg construction director Hans-Otto Seggelke. 129 new bridges were built along the originally 91.7 kilometer long motorway. Numerous quarry ponds next to the motorway were created due to the necessary sand extraction for sand flushing along the route. Around 20,000 trees were planted along the route of the motorway.

The crossing of the Hunte in the east of Oldenburg took place over a 441 meter long and 30 meter high ten-span high bridge, which was opened on November 1, 1978, in order not to impair shipping traffic.

In the southern part of the A 29, there was a makeshift motorway airfield between the Grossenkneten (19) and Ahlhorn (20) junctions until October 2006 . The concreted median was removed and greened. In the spring of 1984 a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft landed here on the motorway during the NATO exercise "Highway 84" .

From 2009 to 2011 the A 29 in Wilhelmshaven was extended by 3.2 kilometers in the direction of JadeWeserPort . It will be brought to the new container port via three new bridges and a new junction. There it ends in a roundabout with exits to the new port terminal, the Lower Saxony bridge and the new Wilhelmshaven power plant (GDF Suez) . The cost of the extension was 16.9 million euros . The construction costs also include the supplementary work at the Fedderwarden and Fedderwardergroden junctions in Wilhelmshaven. So far, these have received missing entrances and exits. The section was opened to traffic on December 6, 2011.
