Bornhorst is a district of the city of Oldenburg (Oldenburg) in Lower Saxony . The place is divided into two parts: Groß-Bornhorst and Klein-Bornhorst .

history

Bornhorst was probably created in the 13th century as the " mutt end " of the village of Ohmstede . This Altköter village is called Groß-Bornhorst. The village of Klein-Bornhorst came into being later. In addition to farming, the mutt ran a craft, in Bornhorst mainly pottery - Klein-Bornhorst was also called 'Dwokuhlen' (= clay pits) in the past. The name Bornhorst probably comes from Born = source, the water from the springs at Bornhorster Geestrand was also delivered to the count's court in Oldenburg.
Bornhorst was hit by bombs several times in 1942.

today

The old village of Bornhorst has retained its rural character to this day. Next to the village is the Bornhorster Huntewiesen nature reserve , a wetland and bird resting place of international importance, from which the Ipweger Moor can also be reached. The last inhabited stork's nest in the city of Oldenburg is on the roof of a barn in Klein-Bornhorst .

The two Bornhorst lakes, which are popular as bathing and surfing lakes in the Oldenburg area, were created through the construction of the A 29 motorway .

traffic

bus

Bornhorst is connected by bus line 460 (Großenmeer - Bornhorst - Ohmstede - Oldenburg , ZOB ). Until the early 80s, the place was also connected by the city bus line 7; From a certain point in time, however, Bornhorst's city bus connection was canceled without replacement, which is why the bus routes 314 and 323 of Verkehr und Wasser GmbH , which serve the nearby Butjadinger Straße in Ohmstede, have to be used.

Highway

The A29 runs through Bornhorst . Bornhorst, however, has no connection of its own. To reach Bornhorst by trunk road, you have to exit at the Ohmstede junction and then drive in the direction of Elsfleth .

Country roads

Elsflether Straße runs through Bornhorst. It leads through a few small towns such as Moorhausen and Huntebrück into Elsfleth , located on the Weser .

Others

societies

Bornhorst has an official club - the Bornhorst Bunker Club . The association organizes the Easter bonfire every year on Easter Sunday, to which numerous residents from the surrounding districts come.
