The Oldenburg-Hatten airfield ( ICAO : EDWH) was founded in 1963 by members of the Oldenburger Motorflug-Verein and built from old air force barracks from the 1940s. The well-known aviator Gerd Achgelis was one of the initiators . The Oldenburg-Hatten airfield operates a flight school for powered flight and microlight flight, each of which also offers sightseeing flights and aircraft charters. From Oldenburg, sightseeing flights in the region and island flights to the East Frisian islands and Sylt can be undertaken. The airfield has a restaurant / café with a garden terrace.

The airfield is located between Bremen and Oldenburg, 10 km east of the city of Oldenburg , accessible via the A28, exit Hatten or directly from Oldenburg via the Bremer Heerstraße and the Hatter Landstraße.

Incidents

  • On May 1, 2004, a Cessna F 172 P crashed near the airfield and caught fire. The pilot who was the only one involved died. He had previously stolen the aircraft and took off unnoticed.
  • On June 11, 2013, a single-engine aircraft hit the landing approach too briefly and overturned in an agricultural area. The two inmates were rescued injured.
  • On April 12, 2015, a four-person Cessna F 172 N took off at EDWH, but did not get up to altitude. After just under a kilometer of flight, it collided with bushes and trees and then crashed into the slope of a moat right next to Federal Highway 28 . The pilot, then mayor of Kirchseelte , was fatally injured in the process, and his flight passengers were rescued from the wreckage, seriously injured.
