The Celle-Arloh airfield is a commercial airfield north of the district town of Celle . It is located in the Lüneburg Heath between Hanover and Lüneburg . The airfield is used and operated by the Flugsportverein Celle. The airfield is also used by the "Luftsportclub Langenhagen eV" gliding club.

The site is near the Scheuen district of Celle, but is called Arloh to distinguish it from the Scheuen glider airfield.

history

The "naval landing airfield" Scheuen was completed in 1918 for the Imperial Navy and served as a station for flights between Wilhelmshaven and Kiel . On November 7, 1918, Scheuen also started a sailors' uprising in Celle based on the Kiel model . After the end of the First World War , the square was abandoned in 1919 .

In the mid-1920s, flight operations were resumed and a flight day was held on March 21, 1926 , albeit to a very limited extent.

In the 1930s, the site regained importance as an external landing site for the Celle-Wietzenbruch air base (today the Celle military airfield) .

After the Second World War , the airfield was finally used by civil aviation enthusiasts and has been operated as a sports airfield ever since.

For several years now, the Bundeswehr has been operating a helicopter training area very close to the site, which is completely enclosed by an on- site training area . The Scheuen glider airfield is also in the immediate vicinity.

Northwest of the airfield is the restricted flight area of the Bergen military training area . In the north-east there is also the restricted flight area, which is part of the Rheinmetall firing range in Unterlüß . In the south of the airport itself also contains the control zones of the air base Celle and Hanover-Langenhagen . The helicopter training traffic to the north and the sailing training traffic south of the airfield are also intensive, so that overall air traffic is very strictly regulated.
