Incidents

Flight operations
  • April 2007: With a chartered Cessna , a 53-year-old from Hahnenklee in the Harz did several practice laps over the Northeim airfield in the afternoon. A few minutes later the machine crashed into a forest between the animal shelter and Rhume and hit the ground on its back between poplars. The pilot, a private aviator, was lucky: he survived thanks to the stable cabin and was seriously injured by the rescue services. The aircraft, which cost around 60,000 euros, belonged to the local aviation club. The Northeim volunteer fire brigade took over the rescue of the machine from the impassable terrain on the day after the accident. In the meantime, the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation at the Federal Aviation Office began investigating the cause of the crash. It later became clear: after an engine malfunction, the machine had hit the trees.
