The airfield Leer-Papenburg is an airfield in East Friesland of national importance near empty .
location
The airfield is located in the Nüttermoor district of Leer near the federal motorway 31 at the Leer-Nord exit ; the airfield is connected to the city center of Leer approx. 4.5 km away by the federal highway 70 . The 160 meter high Nüttermoor telecommunications tower is just under a kilometer away .
Airlines, destinations and approval
The airfield is approved for all helicopters, motor gliders, ultralight and gliders up to 5700 kilograms and other aircraft up to 10,000 kilograms. This is why it is used for national and international charter and company flights by smaller jets and propeller-driven aircraft ( e.g. Beechcraft King Air ).
The airfield is of great importance in taxi flight traffic. All East Frisian islands can be reached from here in around 15 to 30 minutes. Numerous sightseeing flights over East Frisia and the Emsland can be booked here.
With almost 2500 take-offs per year, Leer-Papenburg is one of the most frequently flown airports in Germany in factory traffic, the reasons for this are the shipyard and automotive industries in the region.

Infrastructure
In 2002 the runway at Leer airfield was extended to 1200 meters and received runway lights. There are two taxiways, six hangars and a refueling system available. There is also an airfield restaurant on the premises.
