Sparkasse Leer-Weener

In 1827 the Sparcasse Leer was founded in Leer, which in 1865 became the Städtische Spar- und Leihcasse Leer.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the districts of Leer and Weener founded independent savings banks, which were merged in 1935 to form the Leer and Stadtsparkasse Leer. In 1975 the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Leer and the Sparkasse der Stadt Weener became the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Leer-Weener. In 1991 the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Leer-Weener became the Sparkasse Leer-Weener.

Kreissparkasse Wittmund

The former Kreissparkasse Wittmund was established in 1920 as a savings bank of the Wittmund district. In 1943 seven branches of the dissolved Ostfriesische Sparkasse were taken over. The Kreissparkasse Wittmund existed from 1963 to 2007.

The Sparkasse LeerWittmund was created on January 1, 2007 from the merger of the Sparkasse Leer-Weener and the Kreissparkasse Wittmund.

Between 2012 and 2016, the Sparkasse built a new Sparkasse headquarters on the monument square in the Leeran pedestrian zone. Around 250 Sparkasse employees, who were previously spread over five buildings in the city center, were brought together in the new building. The cost of the new building is around 40 million euros.
