Localization of Lower Saxony in Germany

The telecommunications tower Nüttermoor ( type tower FMT 13 ) is located in the village of Nüttermoor , three kilometers north of Leer (East Friesland) . The Leer-Papenburg airfield is nearby. The tower is similar to the Schinkelturm (Osnabrück). The 160 meter high telecommunications tower of the Deutsche Funkturm was built in 1976 and went into operation the following year. In addition to the non-public directional radio and the use as a cable head station, the telecommunications tower is used to distribute radio programs for the region around Leer.

On November 13, 1998, an airplane collided with the Nüttermoor telecommunications tower. None of the three occupants survived the accident.
