Samuel Blesendorf
Samuel Blesendorf d. J. (baptized January 11 or August 11, 1633 in Berlin ; † 1699 there ) was a German miniature portraitist, draftsman, engraver , enamel painter and goldsmith .
life and work
Samuel Blesendorf was the son of the goldsmith Samuel Blesendorf the Elder. Ä. (ca.1598-1651). His brother Anasias (baptized August 23, 1631; † around 1670) was also a goldsmith. Samuel d. J. worked as a goldsmith in The Hague in 1673 and 1679 , before settling as a goldsmith in Berlin in 1679. In 1690 he became the court engraver of the elector and later King Friedrich III. He became a professor at the Art Academy founded in 1695. Blesendorf mainly created miniatures, portrait engravings and depictions of architecture. The most famous is his engraving “Portrait of Margrave Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach and his wife” (based on the painting by Caspar Netscher ).
His son Constantin Friedrich Blesendorf (baptized February 22, 1674; † December 21, 1744) was also a copper engraver, painter and draftsman.
