Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (born October 18, 1654 in Ansbach , † April 1, 1686 in Ansbach) was Margrave of the Franconian Principality of Ansbach from 1667 to 1686.

Life

Johann Friedrich was the eldest son of Margrave Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach (1620–1667) from his second marriage to Sophie Margarete (1634–1664), daughter of Count Joachim Ernst zu Oettingen-Oettingen. When he took over his father's inheritance in 1667 after his father's death, he was still a minor, which is why a guardianship government chaired by Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg took over the regency in his principality. Johann Friedrich was trained at the universities of Strasbourg and Geneva and then went on his grand tour to France, among other places.

Only when he came of age in 1672 did he take over the rule in Brandenburg-Ansbach himself. Johann Friedrich was considered a tolerant and amiable prince, but was not very ambitious and made himself dependent on the councilors. He continued his father's pro- Habsburg policy and took in French emigrants in Ansbach and Schwabach , which led to an economic revival in the country. His musical inclinations, especially for opera and ballet, as well as his love of ostentation led to financial bottlenecks.

Johann Friedrich died of the leaves at the age of 31 and was buried in the Gumbertus Church in Ansbach .
