Georg Friedrich II. (Brandenburg-Ansbach)
Georg Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (born May 3, 1678 in Ansbach ; † March 29, 1703 at Schmidmühlen ) called the Younger , was Margrave of the Franconian Principality of Ansbach from 1692 to 1703.
Life
Georg Friedrich was the third son of Margrave Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (1654–1686) from his first marriage to Johanna Elisabeth (1651–1680), daughter of Margrave Friedrich VI. from Baden .
After his brother Christian Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach died in 1692, he became his heir as margrave. At this time Georg Friedrich was still a minor, so that initially a guardianship government took over the reign in the Principality of Ansbach.
In the Palatinate War of Succession he fought from 1695 to 1697 as a volunteer in the Imperial Army. During the War of the Spanish Succession in 1702 he succeeded in taking the Modenese fortress of Bersello . He fell as a general of the imperial army when he suffered fatal wounds in the battle of Schmidmühlen in 1703 when crossing the Vils . Since he had no descendants himself, his inheritance fell to his half-brother Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach .
