Margrave Friedrich VI. from Baden-Durlach

Margrave Friedrich VI. von Baden-Durlach (born November 16, 1617 at Karlsburg , Durlach ; † January 10, 1677 or January 31, 1677 ibid), ruled as Margrave of Baden-Durlach from the death of his father in 1659 until the end of his life. He was the son of Margrave Friedrich V of Baden-Durlach and Barbara von Württemberg .

Life

After the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648, there was not long time to recover from the war. As early as 1663 the Turks had penetrated far into Hungary. A joint defense against the Turks by setting up an imperial army was organized by Emperor Leopold I and also demanded by the Margraviate of Baden-Durlach . Friedrich VI. took part in this war as general sergeant .

Even before the war began, he and his cousin, Margrave Wilhelm I of Baden-Baden , received the award from the Emperor, not entirely unselfishly, that they could now call themselves Highness . The title was inherited until 1803, when Margrave Karl Friedrich was appointed Elector of the Margraviate of Baden, which was reunited in 1771, as part of territorial expansion (→ Reichsdeputationshauptschluss ), and in 1806 he was appointed Grand Duke. In the battles against the Turks, the neighbor, Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden-Baden , made a name for himself as Türkenlouis .

Afterwards Friedrich fought in the Dutch War . Friedrich VI. besieged the fortress of Philippsburg in 1676 , which was occupied by the French, took it over on September 17, 1676 and thus incorporated it into the margraviate of Baden-Durlach.

He died on 10./31. January 1677 at Karlsburg in Durlach.
