Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (born January 8, 1686 in Ansbach , † January 7, 1723 in Unterreichenbach ) was margrave of the Franconian principality of Ansbach from 1703 until his death .

Life

Wilhelm Friedrich was the fourth son of Margrave Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach and came from the marriage with his second wife Eleonore von Sachsen-Eisenach . His sister was Wilhelmine Karoline , Queen of Great Britain.

He was the successor of his older half-brother Georg Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach , who died in the War of the Spanish Succession in 1703 and left no heirs. Since Wilhelm Friedrich was still a minor at that time, a guardianship government had to take over the regency again - as with his four predecessors . Even as the Hereditary Prince, he was the head of a Franconian district infantry regiment . As margrave, Wilhelm led the imperial Ansbach Dragoons (1718–1723).

In 1710 he founded the Ansbach faience factory .

In September 1712 he bought the Unterreichenbach Castle for 5,000 Reichstalers and had it converted into a hunting seat. In the same year, when the heir to the throne was born, he gave his wife the castle in Unterschwaningen , acquired by the margravial family in 1630 , which the architect Carl Friedrich von Zocha rebuilt and expanded, who also expanded the Ansbach residence from 1719–1730 .

progeny

On August 28, 1709, he married Princess Christiane Charlotte von Württemberg-Winnental (1694–1729), the daughter of Friedrich Karl .

  • Karl Wilhelm Friedrich (1712–1757), Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach
  • Eleanor (1713-1714)
  • Friedrich Karl (1715-1716)

He had two illegitimate sons with Karoline von Reystendorf:
