history
Unterreichenbach was created as a small hamlet next to a mill on the lower reaches of the Reichenbach, probably in the 9th century.
In the 13th century the place consisted of 6 whole courtyards. In 1313 the place was first mentioned in the fiefdom of Ramung IV. Von Kammerstein as "Nydernreichenbach". The place was owned by the family of the Staufer Reich ministers of the Ramung von Kammerstein -Reichenbach- Schwabach .
The burgraviate of Nuremberg had claims in the place, followed by the margraviate of Ansbach . In the Margravial Salbuch of 1434, 2 farms, 3 Seldengüter and 1 mill are recorded as property for “Nidernreichenbach” . In 1530, 7 foreign-owned properties were listed in addition to these goods: 3 properties were subordinate to the imperial city of Nuremberg , 2 to the Eichstätt monastery , 1 to the Linck family in Schwabach and 1 to the Kun family from Roth. Unterreichenbach had 13 properties. In 1623 only 10 properties are recorded for the place: 5 properties were subordinate to the Principality of Ansbach ( Kastenamt Schwabach : 4, Schwabacher Rat : 1), 1 property to the Eichstättischen Kastenamt Abenberg , 1 property of the Linck family and 3 properties of the imperial city of Nuremberg. In 1732 there were 17 properties in Unterreichenbach, according to Johann Georg Vetter's description of the upper office, 13 of which were subordinate to the Schwabach caste office, 2 properties in the Imperial City of Nuremberg ( St. Klara office : 1, Spitalamt Hl. Geist ), 1 property owned by the Nuremberg owner von Stromer and 1 property belonging to the Abenberg caste office.
Towards the end of the 18th century there were 27 properties in Unterreichenbach, a branch church and communal buildings (shepherd's house, school) .. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Schwabach . The caste office Schwabach held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the Kastenamt Schwabach (23 properties: 1 castle, 1 grinding and sawmill, 1 whole courtyard, 2 half-yards, 3 Köbler estates, 1 estate with tavern , 7 Gütlein, 7 empty houses ), the Eichstättische Kastenamt Abenberg (1 Gütlein), the imperial city Nuremberg (St. Klara and Pillenreuth: 1 Gütlein; Hl. Geist Spitalamt: 1 Ganzhof) and the Nuremberg owner von Stromer (1 Ganzhof). In 1802 there were 29 properties in the village, 25 of which were subordinate to the Oberamt Schwabach and 4 foreign owners.
In 1806 Unterreichenbach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the tax district Unterreichenbach was formed in 1808 , to which the towns of Oberreichenbach , Putzenreuth , Volkersgau and Waikersreuth belonged. In 1818 the rural community Unterreichenbach was formed, which was congruent with the tax district. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Schwabach Regional Court and in the financial administration to the Schwabach Rent Office ( renamed Schwabach Tax Office in 1920 ). From 1862, Unterreichenbach was administered by the Schwabach District Office (renamed the Schwabach District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Schwabach until 1879 and from 1880 it came to the district court Schwabach . The municipality had an area of 13,387 km².
On February 20, 1960, the community Unterreichenbach was dissolved. The eponymous district was incorporated into the city of Schwabach at its own request. The remaining community, to which the places Volkersgau, Oberreichenbach, Waikersreuth and Putzenreuth belonged, kept the old community name for a few weeks. The name was changed to "Volkersgau" on June 9, 1960. On May 1, 1978, Volkersgau was incorporated into the municipality of Kammerstein as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

The castle was built by the Austrian exile Johann Matthias Handel von Gobelsburg and completed in 1655. In 1695 it was bought by Johann Adam Permayr, who also came from an Austrian exile family. In September 1712 the margrave (and brother of the British Queen Caroline ) Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach bought it for the price of 5,000 Reichstalers. He had it converted into a hunting seat. It was later inhabited by his son Carl Wilhelm Friedrich . It served him as a hunting seat until May 1749. The Schwabach fountain on the market square still shows the portraits of the margravial family. After that the castle came into private hands. The castle was demolished in 1914, and the rear building was demolished in 1967. Today there is only one plaque left.
church
The patronage of the Unterreichenbach church is not guaranteed. The consecration of the church on the Sunday before July 25th, the day of remembrance of the Apostle James the Elder, suggests that the Unterreichenbach church is a St. James church . The current church was rebuilt in 1496 in the Gothic style. A previous Romanesque church was built in the 13th or 14th century.
The painter Alfred Kohler is buried in the cemetery.
