history

In Carolingian times , the area and the farms of Volkergau belonged to the Königsmark around Schwabach .

In 1249 the place was first mentioned in a bull of Pope Innocent IV as "Folkadisgehor", in which he confirmed the ownership of this and other places to Heilsbronn Monastery . The place name was usually Volkersgau, the form of the first mention seems to have arisen from a hearing defect. The place name has the personal name of the founder Volkhold as a defining word and Gau as the basic word , ie "Zur Gau des Volkhold". The monastery acquired a total of eight farms there. In 1434 the Margraviate of Ansbach in “Folkerszgaw e e” was only entitled to 1 Sumer grain as an annual fee for the property belonging to the place. In 1623 these claims were also no longer recorded. At that time the place had 14 rear passengers, all of whom were Heilsbronnish. During the Thirty Years' War the place was deserted except for one courtyard. In 1732 there were 10 properties in Volkersgau, according to Johann Georg Vetter's description of the upper office , of which 1 property belonged to the Schwabach hospital , 7 properties belonged to the Heilsbronn monastery administration and 2 properties belonged to the owner von Mohr zu Sommerhausen .

At the end of the 18th century there were 13 properties in Volkersgau. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Schwabach . The monastery administration office in Heilsbronn held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the Principality of Ansbach (Spital Schwabach: 1 half-yard with tavern ; Heilsbronn monastery administrator: 4 whole yards, 2 half-yards, 1 two-thirds yard , 1 little farm, 1 little farm with forge) and the owner von Mohr zu Sommerhausen (3 half-farms). In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, shepherd's house). In 1804 there were 10 properties in the village, 8 of which were subordinate to the Oberamt Schwabach and 2 foreign owners.

In 1808, as part of the municipal edict, Volkersgau was assigned to the Unterreichenbach tax district . It also belonged to the rural community Unterreichenbach formed in 1818 . On February 20, 1960, Unterreichenbach was incorporated into the city of Schwabach at its own request . The remaining community, to which the places Volkersgau, Oberreichenbach , Waikersreuth and Putzenreuth belonged, kept the old community name for a few weeks. The name was finally changed to "Volkersgau" on June 9, 1960. Since the municipality of Prünst ceded an area of around 1 km², the municipality had an area of 13.373 km², which roughly corresponded to the previous municipality. On May 1, 1978, Volkersgau was incorporated into the municipality of Kammerstein as part of the municipal reform.
