The Schwabach is a river in Middle Franconia , which after a 23 km run essentially flows to the east in the Limbach district of the independent city of Schwabach from the left into the Rednitz .

geography

origin

Schwabach spring in Heilsbronn

The Schwabach arises in two branches in and on the edge of the Ketteldorfer Forest west of Heilsbronn in the Ansbach district . The shorter left, the beginning of which is labeled on maps as Schwabachquelle , rises at a little over 410  m above sea level. NN about one kilometer west of the market square just across the route of the Crailsheim – Nuremberg railway line . After crossing under this and a short run to the east of less than half a kilometer, it meets the longer right branch on the western edge of the village. This begins its course at just under 425  m above sea level. NN in the middle of the Ketteldorfer Wald between the railway line in the northwest and the B 14 in the southeast, runs through its forest valley to the northeast, at the end of which two ponds and another field and meadow corridor shortly before Heilsberg, around 1.3 km later with the left one Unite branch.

course

As a result, the Schwabach runs very steadily to the east almost to its mouth. First it crosses the center of Heilsbronn, passes under the B 14 , which bypasses the place in the southeast, and then passes Weiterndorf on the left bank, whereupon the Sichertbächlein emerging in the industrial zone in the northeast of Heilsbronn joins from the left . After the inlet of the right Weißenbronn brook , it crosses Göddeldorf .

Below it crosses the border to the district of Roth to the municipality of Rohr . Here the Erlbach flows from the left and it crosses the eponymous capital. After following the river Leuzdorf which flows from left Schwallenbach on now 339.5  meters above sea level. NN . In the municipality marker, it still crosses Kottensdorf and Gustenfelden and then divides into two parallel branches.

It then flows into the area of the independent city of Schwabach , where it immediately passes Unterreichenbach on the right bank, through which the Volkach flows. The left branch of the flow is divided again here and now left flow Nadler Bach , in the middle Mittelbach and right Schwabach even parallel between newer neighborhoods of Schwabach, which occupy the slopes on both sides. The three branches come together in the town center in the floodplain. Downwards, the outer parts of the city recede back to the slopes and hills that accompany the valley, now the Treuchtlingen – Nuremberg railway crosses the river on a bridge. After this, the Schwabach turns north for the last 1.5 km of its run and passes the Limbach district on the left slope. The Schwabach empties at 308.8  m above sea level. NN from the left into the Rednitz .

The Schwabach has a length of 23.0 km and a mean bed gradient of 4.5 ‰ from the deeper ground source of the left upper course marked on the maps, from the forest source it is about 23.9 km long and falls on average by 4, 8th ‰. Its catchment area, which is elongated in the direction of the river, covers 108 km².
