history

In 1291 the place was first mentioned in writing as "Poppenreut". The place name has the personal name of the founder Poppo as a defining word and -reuth as the basic word , ie "To clearing of Poppo". In the 13th century the place probably consisted of 4 whole courtyards. The place was mentioned as "Poppenriut" in the Salbuch for the Abenberg maintenance authority in Eichstätt , which was set up around 1300. At that time the bishop had a fiefdom there. This fiefdom was no longer listed in the following books. In the Burggräflichen Salbuch of 1410 2 goods and 1 smithy are given for "Poppenreu e t", whereby the goods were subordinate to the caste office Schwabach and the smithy belonged to a Hans Schuster from Kammerstein. In the Salbuch of the now margravial office of Schwabach, which was set up in 1530, 5 properties and 1 shepherd's house were specified for the place, with 2 farms under Schwabach and 3 other properties of the imperial city of Nuremberg . In 1732 there were 6 properties in Poppenreuth, according to Johann Georg Vetter's descriptions of the upper office , 3 of which were subordinate to Schwabach and 3 to the Imperial City of Nuremberg ( St. Katharina Monastery Office : 1, State Almosenamt: 2).

Also towards the end of the 18th century there were 6 properties and a community shepherd's house in Poppenreuth. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Schwabach . The caste office Schwabach held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the Kastenamt Schwabach (2 Ganzhöfe, 1 Gütlein) and the Imperial City of Nuremberg (St. Katharina-Klosteramt: 1 Ganzhof; Landesalmosenamt and Eibach Church: 1 Köblergut; Landesalmosenamt and Church Röthenbach: 1 Ganzhof). In 1802 there were 7 subject families in the village, 4 of which were subordinate to the Schwabach caste office and 3 to the imperial city of Nuremberg.

As part of the community edict, Poppenreuth was assigned to the tax district of Günzersreuth in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Günzersreuth formed in 1818 . On January 1, 1972, Poppenreuth was incorporated into Kammerstein as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
