The Aurach is a year-round flowing water of the 2nd and 3rd order in the Bavarian districts of Ansbach and Roth .
Surname
The name Aurach means something like "creek where aurochs graze" (ahd. Ūr = aurochs and aha = flowing water).

course
The Aurach rises about one kilometer west of Petersaurach , Middle Franconia at an altitude of 452 m above sea level. NN and flows almost 32 km eastwards to its receiving water Rednitz . The villages of Aich , Wollersdorf , Bertholdsdorf , Veitsaurach , Barthelmesaurach , Gauchsdorf and Rothaurach lie along its course . From Götzenreuth it drains the southern flank of the Heidenberg as a receiving water and flows into the northern edge of Roth at 325 m above sea level. NN from the left into the Rednitz. Like most of the western tributaries of the Rednitz, the Aurach has a low gradient and a low discharge as well as sand structures in the bank area and in the river bed .

nature and environment
Water quality
The Aurach has water quality class II-III in its upper reaches and improves to quality class II in its lower reaches. At Petersaurach, Mausendorf , Veitsaurach, Barthelmesaurach, Götzenreuth , Breitenlohe , Aurau and Rothaurach, it receives the treated wastewater from the local sewage treatment plants.
Landscape protection
Most of the course of the Aurach river in the Roth district lies in the cross-district landscape protection area No. 00428.01 .
Mills
The Aurach used to drive a mill at intervals of about two kilometers. These were, for example, the hammer mill , Geichsenmühle , Mausenmühle , Steinmühle , Buckenmühle , Hasenmühle, Neumühle , and Hebresmühle as well as those near Gauchsdorf and Rothaurach and the Lohmühle near Roth. The hydropower of the Aurach has lost its importance today.
