history

In 1309 the place was first mentioned as "Aurau", most likely with the meaning "Auerochsenweide". The place was located in an area that originally belonged to the Lords of Abenberg and when they died out around 1200 it fell to the Burgraviate of Nuremberg . In 1309 and 1380 the Poor Clare Monastery in Nuremberg took possession of a total of three estates. The principality of Ansbach was also wealthy in the village. Four of these goods were sold to the Nuremberg patrician Kreß von Kressenstein between 1544 and 1802 . In the 16th century, the Eichstätt Monastery finally acquired a farm. The rulership of the village was taken over by the Poor Clare Monastery, but this was denied by the Principality of Ansbach. In 1608 and 1697, 14 properties (two mills, seven courtyards, five estates) were specified for the place. Five properties were subordinate to the St. Klara monastery office , six properties to the Nuremberg owner Kreß von Kressenstein, two properties to the principality of Ansbach and one property to the Eichstätt monastery.

Towards the end of the 18th century, there were 14 properties and a community shepherd's house in Aurau. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Schwabach . The rulership of the village and community was disputed between the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste office in Roth and the St. Klara monastery office in the imperial city of Nuremberg . The landlords were the caste office in Schwabach (1 estate with cones, 1 grinding mill, both of which can be leased and borrowed from the Büchenbach church), the Eichstättische caste office in Abenberg (1 estate), the St. Klara cloister office (3 whole yards, 2 Köbler estates ) and the Nuremberg owner Kreß von Kressenstein (4 whole courtyards, 1 half courtyard, 1 Köblergut). In 1799 there were 13 properties in the village. The main source of income at that time was hop growing.

In 1806 Aurau came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the Asbach tax district was formed in 1808 , to which Aurau, Bechhofen , Kleinabenberg and Louisenau belonged. In 1811 the rural community Aurau was formed, which was congruent with the tax district Asbach. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Pleinfeld Regional Court ( renamed the Roth Regional Court in 1858 ) and the financial management of the Spalt Rent Office ( renamed the Spalt Tax Office in 1920 ). However, until 1813, five properties in Aurau were subject to voluntary jurisdiction by the Dürrenmungenau patrimonial court . From 1862 Aurau was administered by the Schwabach district office (renamed the Schwabach district in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Roth and came from 1880 to District Court Roth . In 1932 the tax office Spalt was dissolved. Since then, Aurau has been subordinate to the Schwabach tax office . The municipality had an area of 12,230 km².

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Aurau was dissolved on July 1, 1972: Aurau and Asbach were incorporated into the municipality of Büchenbach, Bechhofen, Kleinabenberg and Louisenau into the city of Abenberg .

Hop growing is still of particular importance in Aurau.
