The Catholic parish church of St. Jakobus in Abenberg , a town in the Central Franconian district of Roth ( Bavaria ), was built in the first half of the 13th century. The parish church in Schechsengasse, in the center of the old town of Abenberg , is a protected monument .

history

The church was built on the site of a previous building. The eastern part of the northern nave wall has been preserved from the original construction . The tower was built from 1294 to 1300. The choir is from the end of the 15th century. In the years 1624 to 1627 and 1854 to 1857 the nave was extended to the west. The tower was given its present shape in 1769.

description

The sandstone block building with a gable roof has a drawn-in choir closed on three sides with a modern flat ceiling. The side tower is covered by a tent roof with a lantern . Retracted wall pillar with pilasters form bands. The barrel-vaulted nave has a gallery in the west . A are on the north wall of Roman arched fries and residues of a Roman portal having two columns obtained.

Furnishing

High altar

In the shrine of the high altar from 1922 there is a Mother of God with child (around 1470), next to the church patron James (baroque) and the city patroness Stilla . The altar wings show scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary in high relief.

On the north wall of the choir there are three paintings from the Marienburg monastery with the depiction: Presentation of Jesus in the temple (around 1680, probably by Kilian Stauffer ), Mary's marriage to Joseph and friendship of Christ (1734). Above the sacristy door there is a sculpture of St. Anne herself (around 1470).

Epitaphs

On the walls there are epitaphs in memory of the officials of the Abenberg Nursing Office : on the choir arch on the right the Seckendorff coat of arms stone (1498), opposite the memorial stone for a child of the carer Alois Freiherr von Riedheim (baroque), on the north portal an epitaph for Johann Michael Strauss and wife Clara (1703) and an epitaph for Freiherr von Ebingen (1765) on the south portal .
