Stilla von Abenberg († around 1140 in Abenberg ) was a church donor and benefactress . She was beatified in 1927 for her services to poor and sick people .

Life

Stilla comes from the family of the Counts of Abenberg . It is possible that Stilla was not her real name, perhaps it is to be equated with Hadewig and thus recorded in 1151/52. She was ordained a virgin and lived in seclusion with three other women in the service of the needy, the poor and the sick. Documents that also referred to Stilla were lost in the Marienburg monastery in 1633 due to a flood and the great fire of 1675. Stilla was born in 1927 by Pope Pius XI. who spoke of her as Stilla Morgenstern , beatified. The July 19 is her memorial in the Roman Catholic Church , in the diocese of Eichstaett is her on July 21 meant.

Pilgrimages

Shortly after her death, pilgrims found themselves in the church in which she is buried. Her epitaph , which has still been preserved , was created around 1250. At the end of the 15th century, the number of pilgrims to her grave increased after the church had been renovated by the diocese of Eichstätt. The church burned down in 1675 and was rebuilt a few years later with financial support from the faithful.

Legend

According to legend, Stilla threw a glove from Abenberg Castle , saying that she wanted to be buried where the glove fell. He was found in St. Peter's Church, which she donated. This explains why she is not buried in the family's grave in Heilsbronn Monastery.
