history
The monastery of the Augustinian Choir Women , consecrated to St. Peter and Paul, was founded in 1142 by Wolfram von Abenberg . Around 1495, the remaining nuns of the Königshofen monastery on the Heide moved to the Marienburg monastery in Abenberg. The Marienburg monastery was dissolved in 1806 in the course of secularization . The citizens of Abenberg acquired the church in 1826, which became a subsidiary church. The monastery buildings were auctioned and most of them demolished in 1830. In 1920 members of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother came to the Marienburg and set up their German mother house there.
