history
The monastery consecrated to St. Mary was founded in 1422 by Katharina Knoll; it was disbanded before 1495. The Augustinian choir women from Königshofen moved to Marienburg Abbey in 1488/1495 . The monastery church became a Lutheran parish church in 1565.
During the Thirty Years' War , on August 20, 1632, the residents of Königshofen fled when Croat mercenaries from the imperial army attacked the cathedral in the hope that the attackers would spare the church. These, however, set fire to the cathedral. 114 people were killed in the fire.
