Riedheim (also Rietheim ) is the name of an old Bavarian - Swabian noble family . The headquarters of the Lords of Riedheim of the same name is Riedheim, a district of the municipality of Holzheim in the Donau-Ries district .

history

Originally, the Riedheim ministers were the Lords of Graisbach , who had their noble residence in Riedheim and named themselves after this place from then on. Bertold der Riedhaimer is mentioned in a document from 1312. In 1384 the brothers Erhard and Winhard Riedhaimer von Riedheim came together to manage their inheritance in Riedheim.

1347 Konrad von Rietheim is mentioned. The family initially settled in Remshart (now part of the municipality of Rettenbach ) near Günzburg , and the headquarters near Holzheim was sold to the von Paar family at the end of the 14th century .

Harthausen Castle , owned by the family since 1567

1418 a Stefan der Riedheimer is mentioned as a canon in Moosburg on the Isar . Wilhelm von Riedheim zu Remshart acquired the Angelberg rule near Türkheim in 1438 . The Lords of Riedheim were able to acquire the high estates fief in 1446 and the two shares of the Burgau fief in Rettenbach in 1517 . Egolf von Riedheim acquired Harthausen Castle near Rettenbach in 1567 , which is still owned by the family today. Around 1760, Baron Johann Alexander von Riedheim had it expanded and redesigned in Baroque style.

Johann von Riedheim († 1507) was prince abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Kempten from 1481 to 1507 . In 1590 Konrad von Riedheim gained the status of imperial baron on Angelberg with the title of Angelberg. In 1696 the imperial barons were extended to include Johann Konrad von Riedheim, who comes from a different line, and his descendants. For this reason, his great-grandson Sigmund Xaver Willibald Aloys von Riedheim, including Herr auf Harthausen (today a district of the municipality of Rettenbach), Remshart and Rettenbach , and his siblings were enrolled in the baron class in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1813 .

During the 18th century, the Lords of Riedheim belonged to the imperial knighthood in the knightly canton of Danube of the Swabian knightly circle due to the rule of Rettenbach acquired in 1438, Harthausen acquired in 1567 and Stetten ob Lontal , which had belonged to the family since the 14th century .

The line baronized at the end of the 16th century has expired, the Harthausen line is still in bloom today.
