Schaftnach is a district of the central Franconian city of Schwabach .

Geographical location

The village is about 14 kilometers south of Nuremberg , four kilometers east of the center of Schwabach and one kilometer south of the confluence of the Rednitz and Schwarzach rivers . The Vogelherd forest area borders in the south. The district road RH 2 / SC 2 leads to Leerstetten (3.3 km east) or to state road 2239 near Penzendorf (0.5 km north-west).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1289 as "Schaftenach". The place name is derived from the earlier there mainly driven sheep, beware "Schaf'ten" as an activity for sheep and "Ache" ahd. For stream, river.

Presumably this was Haufendorf Schaftnach the same time as the neighboring towns Penzendorf 1263 and King Hammer to 1200. The sheep on the water meadows of the Rednitztales was the original main occupation, Schaftnach was the new wool and slaughter, and the lowland below the Penzendorfer mountain the climate relatively mild winter quarters. The semi-nomadic population up to the Middle Ages left no written traces or ground monuments. Even today, the Schaftnachers are called the “Schoft'ler”, i.e. shepherds, in the Franconian dialect.

Originally the Ebrach monastery was wealthy in the village. They sold their property to Nuremberg patricians , who in turn sold part of their property to the Nuremberg Order of the Teutonic Order , to the Heilig-Geist-Spital , to the St. Klarakloster and to the Reich Almosen, and to the Schwand judges' office . The Fraisch held the Burgraviate of Nuremberg , followed by the Margraviate of Ansbach .

In 1623, during the Thirty Years' War , when Schwabach was besieged unsuccessfully, a vigilante group was formed in Schaftnach.

In 1732, according to Johann Georg Vetter's description of the upper office, there were 13 properties in Schaftnach, 4 of which were subordinate to the Teutonic Order Commander Nuremberg, 2 to the Principality of Ansbach (Schwand judge's office: 1, Schwabach hospital : 1), 5 to the imperial city of Nuremberg (St. Klara monastery office : 3, Landesalmosenamt: 1, Spitalamt Hl. Geist: 1) and 2 to the Nuremberg owner von Fürer .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 13 properties and a community shepherd's house in Schaftnach. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach judicial office Schwand . A municipality Lord , the village had not. The landlords were the Deutschordenskommende Nürnberg (1 Ganzhof, 2 Halbhöfe, Köblergut ), the Principality of Ansbach (Judge's office Schwand: 1 empty building ; Spital Schwabach: 1 Köblergut), the Imperial City of Nuremberg (Klosteramt St. Klara: 1 Halbhof; Klosteramt Pillenreuth : 1 Ganzhof; Landesalmosenamt: 1 half yard; Spitalamt Hl. Geist: 1 half yard) and Nuremberg owners ( Kreß von Kressenstein : 1 empty house; von Volckamer : 1 whole yard).

As part of the municipal edict, in 1808 Schaftnach was assigned to the Großschwarzenlohe tax district , Section I. It also belonged to the Großschwarzenlohe rural community formed in 1818 . In 1808, already in the royal Bavarian era, one of the local shepherds was sought as a deserter .

During the Second World War , shortly before the end of the war, there was an artillery position with two guns in Schaftnach , which was supposed to secure the Rednitz crossing near Penzendorf. After the approach was delayed on April 6, 1945 due to a lack of petrol, the position was unable to act due to a lack of ammunition. A complete destruction of the place and the already ordered demolition of the nearby Rednitzbrücke could be averted by the unconditional surrender on April 20, 1945 despite the raging battle of Nuremberg on April 18, 1945 and the simultaneous bombing of Schwabach.

On May 1, 1978, Schaftnach was incorporated into Schwabach as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

At the end of the 20th century, Schaftnach became an enclave , encircled between the autobahn-like Bundesstraße 2 , the Main-Danube Canal , which was flooded here in 1985, and the Rednitz. In the vicinity of the village there is a tank passage in the canal at MDK km 80, which can be used from both sides as a slip point for launching sports boats and, thanks to the convenient parking facilities, is often visited by bathers. In the 1980s, the water watch had erected a permanent watch hut there, which was regularly manned during the summer months when the weather was bathing. However, this has not been cultivated since the early 1990s. In 2011 there was a fatal accident there in which a pensioner parked his vehicle near the slip ramp, went to pick strawberries and left his two granddaughters (7 and 10) in the car. This started rolling for some unexplained reason; the older girl was able to save herself in time before the vehicle sank in the canal, the younger one was only rescued by divers hurrying up after 45 minutes and died.

Agriculture still makes a substantial contribution to the town's economic output. Sheep farming was given up. There is still a rabbit breeder. Furthermore, an inn with a beer garden, a gunsmith's shop, agricultural engineering supplies, an IT office and a heating construction company are operated on site. Solar-electric systems with a total output of around 60 kilowatts are installed on the roofs.
