Wechloy is an old location in the west of the city of Oldenburg .

history

Wechloy is mentioned for the first time in 1259 in a document from the Hude monastery as "Wechlage". The village is on the northern edge of the Haaren lowlands. In the Middle Ages there were four farms here, and around 1790 there were twelve farms and farms. The Wechloy farmers used to belong to the Oldenburg bailiwick and since 1814 to the Oldenburg rural community. In 1858 the village had 170 inhabitants. In 1897 the rural community Oldenburg was divided. Wechloy was now subject to the administration of the Eversten municipality . Wechloy was initially represented in the local council by farmer Friedrich Küpker. The eastern part of the Eversten community with Wechloy finally merged into Oldenburg on August 1, 1924. The historical center of the village is the inn "Zum Drögen Hasen". The Heimatvereen Wechloy e. V. Customs (folk dance, theater, setting the maypole) and the Low German language.

Business

In Wechloy there is an extensive industrial area divided by the A 28 motorway and Ammerländer Heerstraße with trading companies, retail stores and restaurants. The pyramid built in the 1990s by the radio company Ripken & Ripken stands out on the site and now houses a Media Markt branch. The centerpiece is the Famila Shopping Country of Bünting group , which was opened in winter 2007 as an extension of the existing since 1977 famila old center.

The Technology and Start-up Center Oldenburg (TGO) has been under development since the 2010s .

education and Science

Wechloy is part of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg with Faculty V (mathematics and natural sciences), the hearing center and a departmental library. There are also extensive sports facilities.

One of the four vocational schools (BBS) of the city of Oldenburg has been located in Wechloy since 2001. In 2019, around 3,400 schoolchildren will be trained in economics, law and administration.

Wechloy is connected to the motorway network via exit 10 “Oldenburg-Wechloy” of the A 28. The inner-city connection is ensured via the Ammerländer Heerstraße.

The regional bus routes 350 and S35 cross the local area on the way from Oldenburg to Westerstede . Wechloy is also served by several city bus routes operated by Oldenburger Verkehr und Wasser . Line 306 ends at the Wechloy university campus, line 310 runs every 15 minutes to the Famila -Einkaufsland site and every half hour to Ofen . The BBS Wechloy stop is reached from line 308 in the Rauhehorst / Dietrichsfeld ring traffic, from lines 302/313 via Alexanderstraße and from line 324 via Eversten and Universität.

Since June 2015, Wechloy has been connected to the RS 3 line of the Bremen / Lower Saxony regional S-Bahn via the Oldenburg-Wechloy railway stop on the Oldenburg – Leer line .
