Ammerlander Heerstrasse
The Ammerländer Heerstraße is a main road in the west of the city of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony . It leads from the Oldenburg city center as an extension of the Ofener Straße to the outskirts, where it is continued in the Ammerland district as Oldenburger Straße. It connects the districts of Haarentor and Wechloy with the city center. Ammerländer Heerstraße was part of Bundesstraße 75 until it was closed after the construction of Bundesautobahn 28 .

The Ammerländer Heerstraße begins as an extension of the Ofener Straße approx. 1 km away from the Oldenburg city center at the so-called “Westkreuz”, where the Ofener Straße ends, the Ammerländer Heerstraße begins and the “Haarentor” exits of the BAB 28 and the Princessweg joins, the extension of which, Bloherfelder Straße, is the main connecting road to the Bloherfelde district . This part of Ammerländer Heerstraße is mainly a traffic junction and an industrial park.
In the further course of the street there is an area out of town in which the vocational school (BBS) Haarentor is located with approx. 2100 pupils. The BBS was founded in 1898 and is considered the oldest school of its kind in the Oldenburger Land . In addition to vocational training, there is also a technical college and a business high school in the school building . The Catholic Cemetery is on the other side of the street.
In the further course there is a little residential development mixed with smaller commercial enterprises. After the intersection with the Haarenfeld and Schützenweg streets, both of which are mainly residential, you will see the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg on the left. The older buildings of the former college of education and the new building for the lecture center are located directly on Ammerlander Heerstraße. Opposite the university there is essentially residential development.
After the intersection with the streets Artillerieweg and Uhlhornsweg, where the “Campus Haarentor” of the university with the humanities and social sciences as well as the main canteen and library is located, the ecological center, which was built with the intention of being ecological , follows directly at the university to locate oriented service companies near the university. This building is also the seat of the President of the University, while the actual Presidium is across the street.
Directly next to the university campus there is a location for the agricultural investigation and research institute (LUFA Nord-West) of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture . The institutes for food safety and animal health are located at the Ammerländer Heerstraße location. In the immediate vicinity of the LUFA is the former office of the Landesvereinigung der Milchwirtschaft Niedersachsen e. V. This building is now used by LUFA and the University of Oldenburg.
