history

Etzhorn in the north of the city of Oldenburg is a former farming village, it has probably existed since at least the 9th century .

The name Etzhorn is derived from Eddas Horn and describes a stretch of land consisting primarily of geest , which protrudes into the moor like a horn. It was first mentioned in a document in 1305. Like the other old villages in the Ammerland , Etzhorn was an Esch settlement . Etzhorn remained a farming village until the 20th century , although several farms developed into larger distilleries and yeast factories.

In 1896 Etzhorn was connected to the railway through the construction of the "Gummibahn" Oldenburg – Brake . The old embankment is now a walk (from Kummerkamp to the Hullmann distillery). Only the old forecourt of the station has been preserved. To peasantry Etzhorn the villages were Wahnbek , Ipwege and the estate Buttel, today Ammerland.

Since the Danish era in particular, new mutt settlements emerged , first in Nadorst , and from 1858 on Ipwegermoor . After the First World War, the Ofenerdiek , which was built from ammunition barracks, was added.
Etzhorn originally belonged to the house bailiwick, later to the rural community of Oldenburg . In 1897 it became part of the municipality of Ohmstede . Through the administrative reform of 1933 Etzhorn, Nadorst and Ofenerdiek came to the independent city of Oldenburg; Wahnbek, Ipwege and Ipwegermoor went to the municipality of Rastede in the Ammerland district.
