Wahnbek is a part of the municipality of Rastede in the Ammerland district . The district borders the Etzhorn district of the Lower Saxony city of Oldenburg . The city center of Oldenburg is seven kilometers away.

history

Wahnbek was originally part of the Etzhorn farming community (Wahnbek, Ipwege and Gut Buttel). In 1871 Wahnbeck had 124 households with 575 inhabitants in 90 houses with Ipwege and Buttel. Wahnbeck alone had 33 households and 154 inhabitants in 26 houses. Until 1897 Wahnbek and Etzhorn belonged to the rural municipality of Oldenburg , from 1897 to 1933 to the municipality of Ohmstede . Through the administrative reform of 1933 Etzhorn came to the independent city of Oldenburg ; Wahnbek, Ipwege and Ipwegermoor went to the municipality of Rastede in the Ammerland district.

The Ipwege farmers still belong to the local area of ​​Wahnbek today . The place grows according to the number of inhabitants; Little by little, new residential areas were created along the street “Am Sportplatz” and Schulstrasse. The Ipweger Moor is a popular local recreation area . It extends from the south of the Ipwege farming community to the east to Loyermoor, and to the west towards Bornhorst. The Ipweger Moor has numerous nature reserves, protected biotopes for flora and fauna.

The Wahnbek telecommunications tower is in Wahnbek . From 1999 to 2009 it was transformed into an Advent wreath at Christmas time with the help of fairy lights . In this capacity, he was once again able to qualify as the tallest and largest Advent wreath in the world in the Guinness Book of Records . In 2009 there was a smoldering fire in the electrics of the Christmas lights , but it was quickly extinguished. For security reasons, the telecommunications tower will no longer be illuminated in the coming years.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Ipwege-Wahnbek fire brigade, which has been in existence since 1933 and has its depot in Wahnbek, has been a base fire brigade since 2003.
