Kreyenbrück is a district of the Lower Saxony city of Oldenburg (Oldb) .

Origin of name

Kreyenbrück takes its name from the Kreye family, who lived around 1630 at today's "Kreyenbrücke" between Easter Castle and Tungeln (L 870). At that time, the Kreyenbrücke crossed the Hunte at this point , and today it crosses the Osternburger Canal with the Bümmersteder Fleth. The bridge was previously called "Klusbrücke", so named after a Klausner who lived a hermit here.

Structure of the district

Cloppenburger Strasse, the busiest street in Oldenburg, runs through Kreyenbrück. Settlement areas can be found along Klingenbergstrasse, most of which consist of single-family houses. The largest hospital in the city, the Oldenburg Clinic , is located in Kreyenbrück, as is the Oldenburg correctional facility . Klingenbergplatz is the core and marketplace of the district. The Elisabeth Children's Hospital on Cloppenburger Strasse with the associated nurses' home was demolished; the new building was built on the grounds of the clinic on the street An den Vossbergen. The Elisabeth Children's Hospital is now a university hospital and as such is integrated into the hospital.

The numerous cafes and restaurants along Cloppenburger Straße increase the attractiveness of this district. Nevertheless, the north of Kreyenbrück in particular around the Vossberge and Cloppenburger Strasse is considered to be the district with the greatest social problems in Oldenburg. According to a resolution by the Kreyenbrück-Nord redevelopment council in 2011, this area is described as an area in which many people live who “only have a below-average income.” The same document also refers to the fact that numerous families with a migration background live in Kreyenbrück whose social integration is described as "very different".

Transport links

The bus connection to Kreyenbrück is ensured along the An den Voßbergen street by bus routes 311 and 321 operated by Oldenburger Verkehr und Wasser GmbH. The settlement areas along Klingenbergstrasse, Max-Beckmann-Strasse and Meerweg will be connected to Oldenburg city center with these lines. The stops along Cloppenburger Straße are also served by bus lines 280 (Wardenburg), 304 (Bümmerstede), 320 (Wardenburg), 325 and 315, which reach via Sandkrug (Hatten) far beyond the city limits to Hatterwüsting.
