Obenstrohe is located around three kilometers southwest of Varel on the L 819 from Varel to Altjührden . In the north lies the Varel district of Borgstede , in the southwest of the Varel district of Altjührden. The A 29 motorway runs to the east of the district . Junction 9 of the Varel / Obenstrohe motorway is named after the district.

Obenstrohe is surrounded by forests and lakes. The mill pond on the north-western outskirts of the village, with its extensive forest area, serves both the local population and many tourists as a place to relax .

The TuS Obenstrohe from 1906 e. V. is an association geared towards popular sport. The first team last played in the upper third of the District League 2 - Weser-Ems. The home stadium has a small grandstand for spectators, which two of the club's integration figures were able to install using a self-financed concept. The oldest club is the Vareler Turnerbund from 1861. With the TuS Büppel, the TuS Varel 09 and the TuS Dangastermoor there are three other clubs in the city area, all of which also offer football in their club program. At the beginning of the 20th century, Obenstrohe was a district of Varels inhabited almost exclusively by farmers and their families. With the increasing importance of the central location of Varel, more and more settlers were added, and so the modern Obenstrohe, which is now quite densely populated, gradually emerged.
