Location of Rosenberg in Lower Saxony

Rosenberg is a district of Varel in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony .

location

Rosenberg is located in the south of Varel on the K 107 district road. In the north-west of Rosenberg, separated by a forest, is the district of Altjührden . The Neuenwege district of Varel is located in the northeast . In the east, the A29 motorway runs from Wilhelmshaven to Oldenburg . In the south of Rosenberg there is the place Wapeldorf , which already belongs to the municipality Rastede, and in the southwest there is Conneforde , a place belonging to the municipality Wiefelstede .

history

Rosenberg was originally a large moor area , from which some prominent points protruded as hills. The names given with the ending -berg such as Wullenberg, Schwarzeberg, Ahrensberg and Rosenberg are greatly exaggerated, as the hills were only a few meters higher than the moor surrounding them. The Rosenberg, which no longer exists today, was the location of a sheep farm . It was run by a shepherd named Rose and gave the mountain its name. At the beginning of the 19th century the first dwellings in the form of plague huts were built . From 1860 only permanent houses were built. In 1872 the peat factory Ruschmann and Carls settled , which was an important employer.

In 1914 the school district of the newly built Rosenberg School was determined. Since then, it has also marked the boundaries of today's Rosenberg district.
