Conneforde is a district of the municipality Wiefelstede in the district of Ammerland in Lower Saxony .

Geography and transport links

The peasantry is about 9 km northwest of Wiefelstede and has about 300 inhabitants. The L 819 crosses the village. The A 29 can be reached quickly via the L 820 running south . The VBN bus route 330 runs every hour via Wiefelstede to Oldenburg . The line is operated by Verkehr und Wasser GmbH Oldenburg. To the east is the Wiefelstede Conneforde airfield.

history

Conneforde Castle, located on the Wapel , was first mentioned in a document in 1337. It was probably built by Count Konrad I in the first half of the 14th century on the Frisian Heerstraße as a border fortress against the Frisians . It is an almost square castle square with a rectangular outer bailey, both surrounded by a rampart and a moat. The entire facility was about 80 × 50 m in size. In 1966 the last remnants of the wall were leveled. The name Conneforde is probably derived from the location of this castle from Konrad's ford .

Although the citizens continued to go to church in Wiefelstede, from 1577 Conneforde belonged together with Spohle to Varel , from 1857 to the municipality of Varel-Land . In the course of the municipal territorial reform in Lower Saxony , the southern part of Conneforde was assigned to the municipality of Wiefelstede together with Spohle, Herrenhausen and Hullenhausen . In 1980, in the course of the re-establishment of the district of Friesland, which was dissolved in its old form in 1977, the northern part was also incorporated into Wiefelstede.

Culture

Around the Bernsteinsee , a quarry pond , numerous leisure facilities have been established over the past few years , making the place known as a local recreation area . Since 1920, solstice celebrations have been held every June on the Heinenbarg .

The ancestral home association Conneforde eV, the Heimatverein Conneforde eV and the association Fliegerfreunde Conneforde eV are based in Conneforde.
