Location of Metjendorf in Lower Saxony

Metjendorf is a part of the municipality of Wiefelstede in the Ammerland district in Lower Saxony and borders directly on the independent city of Oldenburg . Metjendorf is in the Weser-Ems region . The former village developed into a suburb of the city of Oldenburg in the course of urbanization .

history

The place arose around an old post office and used to belong to the rural community of Oldenburg . In 1924 it became part of the newly formed municipality of Ofen . When this was dissolved again in the course of the Oldenburg administrative reform in 1933, Metjendorf was not proposed to the municipality of Bad Zwischenahn like Ofen , but to the municipality of Wiefelstede, because the place was spatially separated from the rest of the municipality by the construction of the Oldenburg air base . The number of inhabitants has risen rapidly in recent years due to building area developments. The place is and appears to be more of a “sleeping city” in front of Oldenburg without any dynamism of its own.

Club life

The largest local association is TV Metjendorf. But also z. B. the local citizens' association, the AWO Metjendorf, the shooting club, the 3D-Archers (traditional archery club) or the Heinrich-Kunst-Verein (founded in memory of the local Low German stage actor) give this district of Wiefelstede a coexistence and many possibilities in terms of leisure and culture. At the beginning of 2012, the municipal youth and meeting house CASA became a multi-generation house in Metjendorf, so that there is now a meeting place for leisure, education, culture and community for all generations.
