Konrad I. (Oldenburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Konrad I of Oldenburg (documented in 1313 in Oldenburg ; † 1347 in Oldenburg) was Count of Oldenburg .

origin

Konrad's parents were Johann II (documented 1272; † 1315) von Oldenburg and his second wife Hedwig von Diepholz . He was the eldest son from this connection.

Life

From 1324 he registered and sealed together with his older half-brother Johann III. as ruling count, after his death from 1342 alone and from 1345 in the first place together with his nephew Johann IV. On January 6, 1345, both counts granted the city of Oldenburg the city charter to make Oldenburg more attractive as a market for foreign merchants and so on to strengthen the economic basis of the small count house through higher customs income. Konrad I kept the city's freedom within narrow limits, by u. a. an alliance policy with other cities expressly prohibited. Despite this privilege of freedom, Oldenburg remained firmly integrated into the sovereign authority.

Marriage and offspring

Konrad I was married to Ingeborg von Holstein, daughter of Count Gerhard von Holstein, with whom he had two sons:

  • Konrad II. (Attested 1342–1401), direct successor of the father, initially together with Johann IV.
  • Christian V († 1399), successor of the father from 1368
