Büppel is a district of Varel in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony . Büppel has 2373 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2010).

geography

Büppel lies south of the city of Varel, in the west lies  Obenstrohe . A forest connects to the southwest, and the Neudorf district and fields and moors to the south . Jethausermoor and Hohelucht are to the southeast, Jethausen , Streek and Hohenberge to the northeast .

History / origin of name

Büppels settlement probably began before 1540. Evaluations of the files of the church play Varel, which were carried out only more recently, prove this and correct the previous assumption that Büppel was first made in 1570 by Johan Budde (called Johan aufn Büppel or Jan upp'n Büppel) been built on. The building from 1540 consisted of a househusband and two farms, whose houses still exist today.

Since the Middle Ages, the name "Büppel" has been used for an up to eight meter high sand hill northeast of Büppels, which belonged to Obenstrohe in the 16th century. The first settler in Büppel, Dirich tho Bodeker, was listed in the files as "Obenstroher Hausmann", the second and third already had "Büppel" in their name.

In Büppel the TuS Büppel 1910 e. V. is based and offers various sports activities. These include aikido , ball sports , swimming and gymnastics . There is also a school for self-defense there.

In addition, there has been SV Büppel since 1995 , which in addition to table tennis, inline skating and soccer also has bike polo as its own division.
