Hohenberge is a district of Varel in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony . The area has been populated since the 17th century. It is named after the hill located here, which protrudes prominently from the flat marshland . One of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the Oldenburg region has been located on the hill since the beginning of the 18th century .
