  • The federal motorway 861 (abbreviation: BAB 861 ) - short form: Autobahn 861 (abbreviation: A 861 ) - leads from the Hochrhein motorway triangle ( A 98 ) to the Rheinfelden border crossing to Switzerland . The short motorway connects the Swiss A3 with the German A 98.

The motorway was opened on March 7, 2006, and a one-way lane was opened to traffic in 2003. Part of the A 861 is the 1268 m long Nollinger Berg tunnel . The west tube was completed in summer 2005. Around 60 officers from the German Federal Police work at the new border crossing , as the new route carries around a third of the north-south traffic in the Basel region.

On the sovereign territory of the Swiss Confederation, the road is no longer called the BAB 861, but is legally classified as an N3 −A98 motorway feeder, but at ASTRA it is not classified as a feeder, but as a motorway junction, so the first 400 meters after the Swiss border to the exit Rheinfelden-West may not require a vignette so that local traffic can also be handled over the bridge. This makes it possible to cross Swiss customs on a motorway without a vignette.
