The Autobahn triangle Hochrhein (abbreviation AD Hochrhein ; short form Dreieck Hochrhein ) is a motorway triangle under construction in Baden-Württemberg near Lörrach . Here the federal autobahn 861 branches off from the federal autobahn 98 ( high Rhine autobahn ) ( as a relief autobahn of the A 5 , as well as a bypass of Basel ) .

geography

The triangle is located in the extreme southwest of Baden-Württemberg in the southern Black Forest region near the Upper Rhine , which also gave it its name. The triangle lies in the area of the municipality of Rheinfelden (Baden) in the district of Lörrach . It is located about 60 km northwest of Zurich , about 50 km south of Freiburg im Breisgau and about 15 km east of Basel .

The Hochrhein motorway triangle has junction number 7 on the A 98 and number 1 on the A 861.

history

The Hochrhein triangle was only partially opened to traffic on March 7, 2006 as part of the full 2-lane traffic release of the A 861. The first carriageway on the A 861 and the A 98 from Lörrach-Ost were already released in 2003. On December 9, 2010, the now fully 2-lane A 98 was opened between the Lörrach-Ost junction and the Hochrhein motorway triangle. Since then, according to the motorway police, truck traffic in particular on this new bypass around Basel has increased by 13 percent between 2009 and 2010 in a south-north direction and by 15 percent in a north-south direction.

For the complete expansion of the Hochrhein triangle, the 2-lane extension of the A 98 in an easterly direction to the Rheinfelden-Karsau junction is missing. This extension is currently under construction and should be completed in 2020. The bridge structure for the A 98 over the A 861 was completed in 2010.

The name of the Rheinfelden autobahn triangle was used as the planning title during the planning period.
