The Rheinfelder Brücke is a Rhine and border crossing between the German Rheinfelden (Baden) and the Swiss Rheinfelden . It is part of the German crossbar A 861 , which connects the Swiss Autobahn 3 and the German Federal Autobahn 98 . It was opened to traffic on March 7, 2006. The 211 meter long bridge made of prestressed concrete cost around 8.6 million euros, half of which was provided by Switzerland and Germany. Around 14,000 vehicles pass the bridge every day.

The aim of the new Rhine crossing was to relieve the municipalities of Kaiseraugst and both Rheinfelden from external traffic ( shopping tourism , heavy traffic ) and to create an alternative to the Basel - Weil am Rhein border crossing . As a result of the opening, the Old Rhine Bridge was closed to traffic (with the exception of taxis, public buses and vehicles not suitable for the motorway).

The Swiss motorway feeder to the A 3 is exempt from the vignette requirement from the Rheinfelder Brücke to the Rheinfelden-West junction , so that local traffic can also be handled over the bridge. This makes it possible to pass through Swiss customs without a vignette.
