Bundesautobahn 80 (abbreviation: BAB 80 ) - short form: Autobahn 80 (abbreviation: A 80 ) - was the project name of a planned motorway from Germersheim via Bruchsal , Maulbronn , Stuttgart , Göppingen and Ulm to Senden . Sections of the route were completed as autobahn-like federal roads such as the B 35 from Lingenfeld / Germersheim over the Rhine bridge to Rheinsheim , the B 10 from Stuttgart to Eislingen and the B 28 from Ulm to Senden.

Planning history

In the Weimar Republic , the plan for the so-called “top network” included the Stuttgart - Ulm line in the 2nd stage of expansion, but not as a supplementary line, but the only connection between the two cities. The Germersheim - Bruchsal - Stuttgart section was completely missing. The network plans of the National Socialists did not contain a connection between Germersheim, Bruchsal, Stuttgart, Esslingen, Göppingen, Geislingen and Ulm. The Stuttgart - Ulm route was not laid directly parallel to what was then Reichsstraße 10, but offset to the south.

The expansion plan for the federal highways of the law of July 27, 1957 did not yet provide for a new federal motorway between Germersheim, Bruchsal, Stuttgart and Ulm. However, the route from federal highways 35 and 10 Bruchsal (junction of the A 5 ) - Stuttgart - Ulm was already included in the so-called blue network of federal highways, which should be expanded. The blue network also included the federal highway 19 Ulm - Memmingen .

In the requirement plan of the law on the expansion of federal highways from 1971 to 1985 from June 30, 1971, no federal motorway connection was provided for this route. However, the requirement plan already contained the four-lane expansion and new construction of federal highways 35, 10 and 19. The following projects were included:

  • B 35: Triangle with the Autobahn on the left bank of the Rhine ( Krefeld - Koblenz - Ludwigshafen am Rhein - Karlsruhe , internally referred to as "Autobahn 14", later named A 61 and A 69 ) - Germersheim ( B 9 ) (four lanes, 1st lane in urgency level I, 2nd lane in urgency level III)
  • B 35: bypass Germersheim (B 9 - Germersheim - Philippsburg -Rheinsheim) (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • B 35: Philippsburg-Rheinsheim - Graben-Neudorf ( B 36 ) (four-lane, 1st lane as an ongoing project, 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 35: Graben-Neudorf (B 36) - Kreuz Bruchsal (Autobahn Frankfurt (Main) - Basel, internally referred to as "Autobahn 10", today A 5 )) (four lanes, 1st lane in urgency level I, 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 35: Kreuz Bruchsal - Illingen (B 10) (four lanes, 1st carriageway between Gondelsheim and Illingen already completed, otherwise in urgency level II)
  • B 10: Illingen - Kreuz Stuttgart- Zuffenhausen (Autobahn Würzburg - Stuttgart, internally referred to as "Autobahn 23", today A 81 ) (four lanes, 1st lane of the Vaihingen an der Enz bypass and 1st lane of the section east of Enzweihingen - AS Stuttgart -Zuffenhausen already completed; otherwise in urgency level I)
  • B 10: Kreuz Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen - triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (four lanes, partly already completed, otherwise ongoing project)
  • B 10: Triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen - Stuttgart- Bad Cannstatt (four lanes, status as a federal highway unclear, urgency level II)
  • B 10: Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt - Stuttgart- Untertürkheim (four lanes, status as a federal highway not cleared, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Stuttgart-Untertürkheim - Esslingen - Plochingen ( B 313 ) (four lanes completed)
  • B 10: Plochingen (B 313) - Ebersbach an der Fils - Uhingen ( B 297 ) (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Uhingen (B 297) - Göppingen -Ost (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • B 10: Göppingen-Ost - Süßen - Gingen an der Fils (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Gingen an der Fils - Geislingen an der Steige - Kreuz Ulm-West (Autobahn Stuttgart - Munich , internally referred to as "Autobahn 21", today A 8 ) (four lanes, urgency level II)
  • B 10: Kreuz Ulm-West - Ulm-Zentrum (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • B 19: Ulm-Zentrum - Dreieck Hittistetten (Autobahn Würzburg - Ulm - Memmingen, internally referred to as "Autobahn 24", today A 7 ) (four-lane, ongoing project)

With the restructuring of the network of federal motorways, which was introduced with effect from January 1, 1975, the route was summarized under the uniform designation as "Federal Motorway 80".

In the network map of the federal government of January 1, 1976, the A 80 was included unchanged.

The requirement plan of the law amending the law on the expansion of federal trunk roads from 1971 to 1985 from August 5, 1976 still contained the A 80 in full. But the urgency of the individual sections has been modified:

  • Triangle with the A 69 - Germersheim (B 9) (four lanes, 1st lane in urgency level Ib, 2nd lane as a possible additional requirement)
  • Germersheim-Rheinsheim - Neudorf (B 36) (four-lane, 1st carriageway completed, 2nd carriageway as possible additional requirement)
  • Neudorf (B 36) - Kreuz Bruchsal (A 5) - Bruchsal ( B 3 ) (four-lane, 1st lane partly as an ongoing project, partly in urgency level Ia, 2nd lane as a possible further requirement)
  • Bruchsal (B 3) - Illingen (B 10) (four-lane, 1st carriageway between Gondelsheim and Illingen already completed, otherwise as a possible further requirement)
  • Illingen (B 10) - Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction (A 81) (four-lane, 1st lane of the Vaihingen an der Enz bypass and 1st lane of the section east of Enzweihingen - Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction already completed; otherwise in urgency level Ib)
  • Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction - triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (four lanes, partly already completed, otherwise ongoing project)
  • Triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen - Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt (four lanes, status as a federal highway unclear, partly ongoing project, partly in urgency level Ib)
  • Plochingen (B 313) - Ebersbach - west of Uhingen (four lanes, urgency level Ib)
  • west of Uhingen - Göppingen-West (four lanes, urgency level Ia)
  • Göppingen-Ost - Kreuz Ulm-West (A 8) (four lanes, urgency level Ib)
  • Cross Ulm-West (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • Send - Dreieck Hittistetten (A 7) (four lanes, ongoing project)

With the second law amending the law on the expansion of federal trunk roads from 1971 to 1985 from August 25, 1980, the end of federal highway 80 came. Only the following federal highway extension and construction projects were carried out:

  • B 35: OU Bruchsal (two-lane, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Illingen - AS Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (A 81) (four-lane, construction of the 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 10: triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen - north of Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: east of Plochingen (B 10 old) - Ebersbach - Göppingen-West (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Göppingen-Ost - Süßen ( B 466 ) (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Süßen - east of Geislingen (four lanes, urgency level II)
  • B 10: OU Dornstadt (four-lane, ongoing project)

The third law amending the law on the expansion of the federal trunk roads of April 21, 1986 did not lead to the re-inclusion of the A 80 in the requirement plan. The following federal road expansion and construction projects were also included:

  • B 35: OU Bruchsal (two-lane, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Illingen - AS Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (A 81) (four-lane, construction of the 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 10: triangle with the B 27 near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen - north of Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt (four lanes, urgency level II)
  • B 10: east of Plochingen (B 10 old) - Ebersbach - Göppingen-West (four lanes, partly ongoing project, partly in urgency level I)
  • B 10: Göppingen-Ost - Süßen (B 466) (four lanes, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Süßen - Gingen an der Fils (four lanes, 1st lane in urgency level I, 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 10: Gingen an der Fils - east of Geislingen (four lanes, urgency level II)
  • B 10: east of Geislingen - Dornstadt (two-lane expansion, urgency level II)

Also, the requirement plan of the Fourth Act amending the Trunk Road Upgrading Act of 15 November 1993 did not include the Federal Highway 80th The following measures were also considered:

  • B 35: OU Bruchsal (two-lane, ongoing project)
  • B 35: OU Helmsheim (two-lane, urgency level I)
  • B 10: Illingen - AS Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (A 81) (four lanes, 1st lane OU Enzweihingen in urgency level I, construction of the 2nd lane in urgency level II)

  • B 10: Ebersbach - Göppingen-West (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • B 10: Göppingen-Ost - Süßen (B 466) (four lanes, ongoing project)
  • B 10: Süßen - Gingen an der Fils (four-lane, 1st lane ongoing project, 2nd lane in urgency level II)
  • B 10: Gingen an der Fils - east of Geislingen (four lanes, urgency level II)
  • B 10: OU Urspring (two-lane expansion, urgency level II)
  • B 10: OU Luizhausen (two-lane expansion, urgency level I)

The requirements plan of the Fifth Act to Change the Highway Expansion Act of October 4, 2004 also did not bring the planning of the Federal Motorway 80 back up. The following projects were now included:

  • B 35: OU Bruchsal, western construction phase to B 3 (two-lane, ongoing project)
  • B 35: OU Bruchsal, eastern construction section (two lanes, further requirements with planning rights)

particularities

  • In the course of the B 35 north of Graben-Neudorf, two bridge structures have already been designed for a four-lane expansion.
  • The Ulm – Senden section has already been signposted as a motorway. This makes it one of the few routes in Germany where a federal road is signposted as a motorway. Another special feature is the Neu-Ulm motorway triangle , which is officially signposted as a motorway triangle, but actually represents a triangle of two federal highways. This is unique in Germany.
