history

Helmsheim was first mentioned in a document in 769 as Helmulfisheim and Helmolvesheim . From the early 12th century to 1299, the place was the seat of a noble family. Small traces of a former castle can be found southwest of Helmsheim. The von Helmsheim were related to the Zollern in the late 13th century . The local rule changed in 1299 to Count Albrecht von Hohenberg. He assigned the castle and the rights of rule to Württemberg. In 1380 the place came to Wiprecht von Helmstatt and in 1483 into the possession of Bleikhard Landschad von Steinach. At that time the place was already under Palatinate sovereignty. From 1561 a Palatinate fief can be documented. After the Thirty Years' War the place was lent to the Kleineicholzheimer line of the Landschad. In the 18th century, Helmsheim was ceded to Baden-Durlach in exchange in 1771. It was not until 1792 that the knight canton in Kraichgau waived its claims. The place later belonged to the Baden office of Münzesheim. From 1803 Bruchsal was responsible.

On July 1, 1972, the formerly independent community of Helmsheim was incorporated into the city of Bruchsal.
